Spiti river is tributary of Satluj river originating from Kunzum mountain ranges, the water flows through its tributaries Tegpo and Kabzian streams. The Spiti river confluence with Satluj at Khan near Namgia in district Kinnaur Himachal Pradesh.
Mountains of Spiti
The water of Pin valley also forms a part of Spiti river system. The peak discharge in this river is experienced in late summer due to snow melt of glaciers. The river traverses about 150 Km through Spiti Valley from North-West then South-West direction up to confluence point Khab.

There are high barren mountains on both sides of Spiti river having mostly devoid of vegetation cover.

The Spiti Valley is a cold desert located in North- Eastern part of Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh, the area experiences no rain and the water flowing in spiti river is glacier snow melt. The human settlements are on the river banks such as Tabo, Dhankar, Kaza and Rangrik etc.
