Suraj Tal is a beautiful high altitude lake, ranking third in India situated at an altitude of 4800 metres from mean sea level in Lahaul -Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh, the beautiful state of India.
Suraj Tal a Beautiful View
The Suraj Tal is source of origin of Bhaga river, the lake is located just below and opposite Baralacha with an area of about 392 hectares. The source of origin of Chandra river is Chandra tal, both the rivers Chandra and Bhaga meets at Tandi and then river is called Chandrabhaga in Himachal Pradesh and when Chandrabhaga enters in Jammu -Kashmir it is renamed as Chenav.

The lake is fed by glaciers and some streams originating from Baralacha pass which is 8 km in length and is known as pass with cross roads on summit. The roads from Zanskar,Ladakh ,Spiti and Lahaul meet at this pass.The lake gets frozen during winter.

The connectivity to Suraj Tal leke is by road through National Highway No 21,Leh-Manali Highway. The distance of lake from Keylong, the district head quarters of Lahaul -Spiti is, 65 km. The lake is attractions for tourists from the country and abroad. During summer season the lake and valley looks very beautiful having wild flowers, grass and mountain flora in its vast meadows around the lake.
