When we talk about world heritage sites the name “ Potala Palace “ is one which was declared as world heritage site since 1994.
Potala Palace , Winter Palace of Dalai Lamas in Lhasa
Potala Palace is situated in Lhasa , Tibet ,China . It is named after Mount Potalaka , the mythical abode of the bothisattva Avalokitesvara . The 5th Dalai Lama started the construction of this building in 1645 .
It was the winner Palace of Dalai Lamas from 1649 to 1959 and now museum since then .
The special features of this building are :- It is 400 metres East west and 350 metres North South with sloping stone walls .

The thickness of its walls are 3 metres and 5 metres at the base ,it's foundation is poured with copper to make it earthquake resistant. It is thirteen story building with 1000 rooms , 10000 shrines and about 200000 statues .
