The Economy of District Kinnaur is mainly based on Agriculture, horticulture, Tourism and Hydropower projects . The total geographical area of the district is 6401 square Kilometres . The total cropped area is 11092 hectares and the area under forest is 645.31 square Kilometres . The per capita income in the district is Rs 217993/- .
Agriculture :-
Agriculture is a main contribution towards the economy of district Kinnaur. The major crops in the district are :-
Wheat , Maize,barley ,beans , potatoes peas and Pulses are the major crops in the district . Turnips cabbage , Potatoes ,Peas ,Radish ,Capsicum and chillies are grown in some areas . The irrigation coverage is 5474 hectares of land .

Animal Husbandry has an important role in the rural economy of the district . The sheep breading farm Karchham is playing a great role in in the economy development of the district . Some private Goat farm in Kalpa are also contributing towards economy of the district .

Trout fish farming is functioning in Sangla Valley in Kinnaur to promote trout fish farming in Kinnaur to raise the economy of the district .
