The river Uhal is a tributary of of Beas, it rises from the Thamsar glacier , the two feeder streams to the North of Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh after crossing the mountains merge at the base southern slopes form the river Uhal in district Kangra.

The Uhal then flows along the base of Dhauladhar range, there after flowing towards South -East merges in Beas between Mandi and Pandoh.

The Barot village was developed during 1920 for establishing Shanan hydel power project, which is a centre of attraction for tourism. The road to Barot bifurcates from Ghatashni on Mandi Pathankot National Highway. The Barot is about 40 Km from Jogindernagar and 65 Km from Mandi.
Government of Himachal Pradesh Department of Fisheries has established a Trout fishing breeding farm at Barot.The Trout fish seed is released into Uhal river from Trout hatchery. About 3o Km portion of Uhal is used for angling. The valley has immense natural beauty, nature lovers used to visit Barot valley.
