The Lahaul Spiti was previously two separate districts  Lahaul with district headquarters at Kardang and Spiti with district headquarters at Dhankar  . During 1960 Lahaul Spiti was made district with headphones at Keylong . 





The western boundary of Lahaul Spiti is with Chamba district and in North it shares it's boundaries with zanskar and Ladhakh and China , the Tibet platue . Lahaul Spiti also shared boudries with Kinnaur , Kullu and Kangra districts .

The district has very beautiful landscapes and tourists around the world used to visit these panoramic landscapes .


The area of the Lahaul Spiti is 13833 square kilometres and the valley floor is 4270 metres above mean sea level . The administrative headquarter of district are Keylong  and Kaza is also administrative headquarter of Spiti valley .





Economy of district Lahaul Spiti :- 


The economy of the district mainly includes the income from agriculture and tourism . The per capita income of the district is Rs. 1,92,292/-.

The area under agriculture is about 3544 hectares and the forest cover is 158.85 square kilometres .

This village is located on the bank of Spiti river on a rocky outcrop . It is about 105 km from Recong Peo . The Jamato temple here is worth seeing .


Pooh  :-   


The scenic beauty of village  is natural and attractions for tourists . The village is situated at about 71 Km from Recong Peo. 

The green fields , vineyards , apricot , almond and grapes orchards are in abundance in the area .

Sumdo :- 

It is the gate way to Spiti Valley and is about 104 km from Kalpa  . 

The Kinnaur is connected with Hindustan Tiebet road to Shimla and Spiti . Bus service and taxi service is available to visit this area .  The nearest railway station is Shimla and Jubbarhatti Air Port in Shimla   is nearest airport .

Ribba Village in Kinnaur 

Ribba Village is situated at a distance of about 19 Km from Moorang . Rispa ,Skibba are near by villages . Rispa is famous for its grapes .. The Ribba Village is situated at an altitude of about 3745 metres above mean sea level .


The village is famous for grapes wine which is called Angoori . The apple Orchards also adds immense beauty to the village .

Chilgoza also called pine nut is in abundance in Ribba area  . It's name may be kept due to pine nut forests on the mountain . Pine nut is called Ri and rang means mountain , so in local dialect Ribba is called Rirangb. 




It is a charming place for tourists because of natural beauty of the area . Tourists always prefer to visit Ribba .

Nako is a very beautiful village situated at an altitude of about 3662 metres above mean sea level at a distance of about 107 Km from Recong Peo district headquarters in the trans Himalayan region of Kinnaur near Indo Tibetan border .

The village is situated around the Nako lake formed from masses of snow .  It is believed that  Padmasambhav had done  maditation  at Nako . A Buddhist Monastery is situated here from  1025  .

The Chango village is famous for its apple Orchards . Finest quality apple in Himachal Pradesh is grown in Chango . This village is situated at a distance of about 125 Km from Recong Peo district headquarters of Kinnaur and about 44 Km from Pooh Tehsil headquarters at a altitude of about 3058 metres above mean sea level.

 Trekking in Goverta a beautiful Village in Tehsil Baldawara district Mandi Himachal Pradesh India :- 





On 13 th March we have an opportunity to visit village Goverta alongwith Mr Jivan Singh  Managing Director of Sanskar Valley School Nabrot Dhalwan, Mr. Pankaj Sharma ,Mrs. Nirmla Thakur  , Shivani Sharma , Mrs. Nisha  teachers of the school in connection with getting the people to know the education programs of Sanskar Valley School Nabrot Dhalwan.



The village Goverta is a very beautiful village about 6 Km from Patrighat and about 2. 5 km down hill from Shri Naina Devi ji Temple  in the middle of Chir forest and panoramic landscapes of Shivalik hills. The village has a pucca road connectivity .

In previous years the Goverta village was in snow range but now due temperature changes  globally this village rarely experience snow fall .


The Goverta village is surrounded by other villages  like Dhanehr , Sarkidhar , Patrighat ,Kalkhar , Amblagalu , Gummu , Hadsar Gullela  and Jawali . The area of the village is 58.44 hectares and houses in this village are 70  in numbers .


We met many men and women of the village  . The are of very nice nature  . The major source of income is agriculture , animal Husbandry and services in private and public sector.

On the way from Powari to Kalpa  about 7 Km from Powari we reach at Recong Peo which is district headquarters of district Kinnaur about 260 Km from State capital Shimla .

Recong Peo is situated at an altitude of 2290 metres above mean sea level admist panoramic landscapes of Himalayas .


Ancient Gompa called - Hu-Bu -Lan - Kar is established here by Rinchensang Po during 950  -1055 . The new Gompa commemorating the vanue of Kalachakra initiation conducted by Bodh Dharam Guru Dalai Lama during 1992.

The majestic peak of Kinner kailash is held very sacred by the Hindus as they consider kinner  kailash as one of the abodes of Lord Shiva.

A high rock formations like Shiva lingam  about 79 feet high seen by the side of the mountain  is Kinner kailash the one of the abodes of Lord Shiva in district Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh .

Devotees of Lord Shiva undertake the prikrama around the peak . 


The parikrama starts from Moorang and ends at Karchham , Kalpa . The complete parikrama takes 7- 8 days . The altitude of Kinner kailash is about 6050 metres above mean sea level . It is accessible from Charang La pass which is situated at an altitude of 5300 metres above mean sea level .

The parikrama trek is almost clear from may to September . The parikrama is doable in June to August . The parikrama is considered as holy one dedicated to Lord Shiva .
