Shatul Pass ," A mountain pass connecting Shimla district with district Kinnaur."

 Shatul Pass :- 



Andhra valley district Shimla 

The Shatul  pass is a high mountain pass situated at an altitude of about 4725 metre above mean sea level between district Shimla and district  Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh .

The trek to Shatul  starts from Rohru region , the trail begins from village Chichwari which is located in Andhra valley in Chirgaon  in district Shimla .


 Mountains of Kinnaur 

The Village Chichwari is about 136Km from Shimla headquarters of district as well as capital of Himachal Pradesh . The trek traverses along the Andhra stream  and crosses  over the Shatul pass and on the other side crosses the Panvi stream what further flows near Panvi  village and confluence with river Satluj near Wangtu in district Kinnaur .

The trek is lesser known and is rarely used . The Village Panvi is a small village in tehsil Nichar district Kinnaur . The trek also have many beautiful spots worth from tourism point of view .

Chanshal Pass , " A mountain pass connecting Rohru with Dodra - kawar in Shimla district , Himachal Pradesh ."

Chanshal Pass is a mountain pass situated in district Shimla which connects Rohru with Dodra-Kawar  at an altitude of 3750 metres above mean sea level .

The fair weather road connectivity has been provided by the state Government  from Rohru to Dodra-Kawar .

The Chanshal pass is 48 Km from Rohru and Dodra-Kawar is 75 Km from Rohru .

Barua Pass , "A high mountain pass which connects Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh with Gehrwal in Utrakhand.,"

 Buran  Ghati Pass Or Barua Pass :- 

Barua pass is also called Buran Ghati Pass . The Barua Pass is located at an altitude of 4578 metres above mean sea level and connects Kinnaur district with Garhwal of Utrakhand .
The pass is accessible from Shimla via Thiyog  Rohru route, the village Barua is situated in district Kinnaur , just below the Barua pass . The Janglik , starting point of trek is about 150 km from Shimla

The Buran Ghati is a very beautiful valley having panoramic landscapes comprising forests , long spread meadows , lakes and snow capped mountains .

The trekking teams from India and abroad used to enjoying the beauty and climate of this valley in summer season in the month of May and June . 


       Dayara Thatch View 

The trek starts from Janglik village near Rohru and climbs to Dayara Thatch , Litham Thatch   , then from Litham the Chandernahan lake is easily accessible , the lake remains frozen maximum time of the year . From Litham Thatch the trail further traverses through Dhunda then to Barua pass . From Dhunda Munirang is the beautiful river camp site . On the other side of the pass there is a beautiful village Barua in district Kinnaur . To this side there are  snow slides and tourists often enjoy these with ropes . The Barua is connected with road and the tourists can further visit Chhitkul , Sangla valley and can return to Shimla via Karchham  , Rampur and Narkanda , finally Shimla  . Thus this route connects Kinnaur and Garhwal region of Uttarakhand with Shimla also  .

Kathikukari Jot , " Mountain Jot between Kangra and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh ."

 Kathikukari Jot :-

Kathikukari Jot is a mountain pass between Kangra and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh situated at an elevation of 4645  metres above mean sea level .

The Kathi and Kukri are small villages or hemlets in Tehsil Nagar and Grampanchayat Pichhlihar in district Kullu Himachal Pradesh . These hemlets are located in the North of Kullu district headquarters at a distance of
 22 Km from Kullu .

The Villages Kathi Kukri  are situated at an altitude of about 2330 metres above mean sea level . These are the last villages on the Southern side almost opposite  a large valley to the North . 

The trek to the Kathi Kukri Jot starts from the middle of Kukri village uphill and take a sharp turn to the right . The main trail out of the village is  to be   followed to the jot as it is the only passage to  the approaching cliff face . The trek descends through a Rocky staircase to Phojal Nalla and the river is crossed over through a small bridge . The trail passes through Phojal Valley , the route climbs high  in wild and relatively open alpine . The route makes excellent sites for snow cave and  there are some appealing slopes around the pass , the ski tourists might be using these slopes to enter into a next valley .
The Kathikukari jot leads to skiing down to Kalihan Glacier and eventually to the Ravi river drainage .

The jots located in the trek from Barabhangal to Kullu- Manali are  Kathikukari and Manali Pass .

 The trek through Manali Pass traverses along Lama Dugh , Riyali Thatch  ,Kalihani , Devi ki Marhi , Dal Marhi , Marhi , Plachak and Rajgundha witnesses panoramic views of Pir- Panjal and Dhauladhar mountain ranges .

Pin -Parvati Pass, " Connecting Pin valley in Spiti with Parvati Valley in district Kullu ."

 Pin - Parvati Pass :- 

Pin valley is situated in Spiti valley of district Lahaul Spiti and Parvati valley is in the jurisdiction of district Kullu in Himachal Pradesh .

A high mountain pass connecting these two valleys is known as Pin- Parvati Pass .

Pin- Parvati Pass is situated between Parvati valley and Pin Valley at an altitude of 5319 metres above mean sea level .

The pin -Parvati pass was first crossed over in August 1884 by Sir Louis Dane as an alternate route to Spiti from Kullu .

Sir Louis Dane was posted in Punjab as an Assistant Commissioner in 1876 and later in 1879 he became private Secretary to Lieutenant  Governor of Punjab .

In August 1884 he crossed over Pin -Parvati pass .  In 1913 he retired as an  Lieutenant Governor of Punjab .

Now a days the Pin - Parvati trek is one of the popular trek for trekkers . 

The trek traverses from Barsheni then after 4 hours walk Kheerganga a beautiful place famous for hot water springs .

From Kheerganga the trek traverses towards Tunda Bhuj at an altitude of about 3322 metres above mean sea level then further traverses to Thakur Kuwan  at an altitude of 3779.50 metres above mean sea level . Then trek  goes to Ody Thatch and from ody Thatch to Mantalai which about 4115 metres above mean sea level . From Mantalai to Pin -Parvati pass.

The trek from Pin -Parvati pass  traverses through Bedu Tanch then Tiya and finally reach Mudh village which is ending point of trek  when journey is started from Parvati valley , if trekking is started  from Spiti valley then Mudh village is starting point . Mudh to Kaza is about 11 km , the administrative headquarter of Spiti .

Kang-La Pass , " A high mountain pass connecting Miyar valley of Lahaul Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh with Zanskar valley in Ladakh .

Kang-La Pass is a high altitude mountain pass in Himachal Pradesh district Lahaul Spiti which connects the beautiful valley of flowers named Miyar valley  in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh with Zanskar valley in Ladakh .

The Kang-La Pass is situated at an altitude of 5450 metres above mean sea level .

The trek to this mountain pass starts from village Shukto in Miyar valley . Up to village Shukto one can reach through Himachal Road Transport Corporation buses as road connectivity is available up to this village .  The Himachal Road Transport buses ply on Keylong to Shukto .

The Miyar valley is a part of Lahaul region and is situated between Pir -Panjal and Zanskar mountain ranges .

The paragliding , water rafting and rock climbing are adventure activities in this area .

Gulari Jot ," A mountain pass in Lahaul region of district Lahaul Spiti

Gulari Jot is a mountain pass located in Lahaul region at an altitude of 4960 metres above mean sea level .





The Lahaul region of district Lahaul Spiti is a very much famous for scenic beauty of mountain ranges and  beautiful landscapes of villages enriched with Buddhist art and culture.




The administrative headquarter of Lahaul Spiti district is located at Keylong .

The Lahaul valley is marked by high mountains , massive glaciers , rivers and mountain passes . 




There are many mountain passes in Lahaul Spiti region to cross over to different places . The major passes are :- 

1. Kunzum La at an altitude of 4551 metres above mean sea level .

2. Baralacha Pass at an altitude of 4890 metres above mean sea level .

Thamsar Pass , " A mountain pass Existing in Ravi Valley connects Kullu Valley with Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh ."

 Thamsar Pass :- 

Thamsar Pass is a mountain pass situated at an altitude of 4875 metres above mean sea level in the Ravi Valley sandwiched between Holi and Bara Bhangal villages in district Kangra Himachal Pradesh .

The Thamsar Pass connects Kullu Valley with Kangra valley . The trek to Thamsar Pass connecting these two valleys is very challenging one . The pass is generally used by shepherds with their live stock from Kullu to Dharmshala district Kangra .

The trek traverses through narrow ,tricky  , Rocky and glaciers paths . This trek is frequently used by Gaddi people .
