People often call it Shingo La , Though it's name is also Shinkula Pass. It is a high mountain Pass situated between the border of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh at an altitude of 5091 metres above mean sea level.

Just about 20 metres below there is a shallow lake. The Shinkula Pass is connecting Zanskar with Lahaul Valley. The Pass is an entry point to Lugnak Valley in Zanskar range.

When we approach from side the nearest village is Chikka and in Zanskar side the nearest village is Kurgiakh. The road from Darcha to Shinkula connects the valleys Lahaul and Zanskar. The distance from Darcha to Shinkula is about 36 Kms.
The base camp site from Darcha side is Ramjak Or Chumik Nakpo and Lakong from Padum side.

Padum is an administrative centre in Zanskar named after Padumshambhav the Bodh Guru.
