Mahadev  Lord Shiva Temple at Gasota :-

Just about 7 Km from Hamirpur town on Hamirpur Jahu road a beautiful village Gasota has an ancient temple of Mahadev Lord Shiva . It is about 33 Km from Jahu . 


The Gasota Mahadev temple site is very beautiful place , the pilgrims from various parts of the state as well as from Punjab , Delhi and Haryana come to visit and to take the blessings of Lord Shiva at Gasota Mahadev temple every year . On Shivratri the temple is fully decorated with flowers and a huge crowds can be seen here .

The history of this temple is related to  Pandvas , as per hear saying Pandavas had spent some time of their exile at this place . They were keeping cows here and during that period draught  brought scarcity of water . The life was very difficult due draught then Bheema hit the ground with his mace ( Gada ) and the water water started flowing . That holy water is still continues flowing even today .

How the Lord Shiva  temple came into existence , it is said that in the ancient times once a farmer was plowing his field then some hard thing struck the tip of plough and water started flowing , again when plough  struck that thing mik started flowing , third time the plough again struck that thing then blood came out , on seeing this scene the farmer lost the vision of his eyes .

Then in a dream Lord Shiva appeared to him and said that with the help of villagers  excavate the spot and take Shiva linga out and establish it with rituals at this place after saying   Lord Shiva disappeared . Then the farmer with the help of villagers did all as Lord Shiva had told and established the Shiva Linga at this place and later on this temple was constructed . The farmer regained his lost eyes vision .

The temple from thousands of years has become the centre of faith for all devotees of lord Shiva . The temple management has been managing langar to the devotees who come to the temple for offering prayers before Lord Shiva. A Goshala is being managed by the temple management , people of the area also contribute grass and feed to the cows .So it a very beautiful religious place in the district Hamirpur where thousands of tourists and pilgrims visit .

As per hear saying at this place grazing of cows was a common  so it's name derived Gasota . In the previous years Gasota was famous for its Nalwari fair ( cattle fair )

Another beautiful place to pay your offerings and take blessings of Lord Shani Dev , the deity of justice is Shani Dev temple at Lambloo in district Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh .

The temple is situated near Lambloo in village Sarli on Hamirpur Jahu road at a distance of about 25 Km from Jahu Town and about 11 Km from Hamirpur town district headquarters.

The temple is managed by trust , on Saturday huge crowd can be seen  taking blessings to Bhagwan Shani Dev. Mustard oil , black cloth , black gram ( Mash ki Dal ) are offered to Maharaj Shani Dev on Saturday to take the blessings of Shani  Maharaj.

In the temple people also  do Tula daan  to please the planets and avoid shani's bad effects and to achieve peace and prosperity in the family and life  . If Shani Dev is prayed with deep heart with devotion , wishes are fulfilled by Bhagwan Shani Dev it has been experienced .

It is also one of the famous temples of Adi Shakti Mata Durga situated on the boundary of district Mandi and district Hamirpur . The temple is   existing in district Hamirpur and is about 24 km from Hamirpur town and 15 Km from Sarkaghat town .

The temple is situated on National Highway No 70 Jalandhar - Hamirpur -Sarkaghat - Dharampur - Mandi - Manali National Highway  at a distance of about 24 km from Hamirpur in Awah Devi town on a very beautiful hill .

The temple is about 25o years old established here by the king of Kangra . At present the management of the temple is being managed by committee. The temple is situated on a very beautiful location . Mata Jalpa is kul Devi of the surrounding areas. The people from Mandi and Hamirpur always come to pay their offerings and seek the blessings of Mata Jalpa .

All around the temple the beautiful sculptures of various Deitys have been established. During the Navratris huge crowd can be seen in the temple . The temple committee also manages langar for the pilgrims .

Deot Sidh , Baba Balak Nath 

In the district Hamirpur , Hamirpur is a very beautiful town of Himachal Pradesh situated at an altitude of about 786 metres above mean sea level on Dharamshala - Shimla National Highway among a beautiful forest of Chir trees . The elevation of the district Hamirpur varies from 650 metres to 1100 metres above mean sea level .

The Hamirpur town is about 141 Kms from Shimla and about 90 Kms from Dharamshala . The distance between Hamirpur and Jalandhar ( Punjab ) is about 148 kms .

In this part we will cover the places of tourist 's importance  related to historic , temple Tourism and scenic beauty which are mostly visited by the tourists .

Baba Balak Nath temple at Deot Sidh :--

The Baba Balak Nath temple is  a famous Sidh Peeth  in North India , situated on a hill top  in district Hamirpur near the boundary of district Bilaspur in Shivalik hill range. It is about 45 Kms from Hamirpur town . 

The Baba Balak Nath temple is just 4 Kms from Shah Talai where Baba Balak Nath  had done austerity for twelve years and had been grazing the cows of Mata Ratno . This holy place has Bodhivriksh ( Tree ) and Gurna Jhari under which Baba had meditation . Baba had done many miracles at this place . It is this place from where Baba Balak Nath had flewed to holy cave at Deot Sidh riding on peacock . There are temples of Baba Balak Nath at Shahtalai one at Gurna Jhari and another near Bodhivriksh Shahtalai is situated in district Bilaspur .

A fair is held every year to offer prayers to Baba Balak Nath for one month from 13 th March to 14 April . During this period lacs of pilgrims visit this holy temple .

Sunday is the day of Baba Balak Nath , it is on this day Rot (Bread of Wheat flour ) and Prashad is offered to please Baba Balak Nath . At the entrance of cave called Gufa an idol of Baba Balak Nath is established where pilgrims offer their prayers . On Sunday great rush can be seen in the temple .


If you have some wishes pray to Baba and in due course of time Baba Balak Nath  certainly fullfills your  wishes , it is the truth.It is believed that Baba Balak Nath is reincarnation of Lord Kartikey the son of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati who by virtue of his meditation of Lord Shiva has attained param sidhi thus have been called Sidh . Lord Shiva has blessed Baba Balak Nath to be remained as child ( Balak ) forever , thus Baba is called Baba Balak Nath .

The pilgrims from various parts of the country specially from Punjab , Delhi , Rajasthan Haryana , UP and even abroad used to visit this holy templesto pay their worships.

The pilgrims from Himachal Pradesh specially used to visit this temple in the month of April from 13 th. April to mid May to pay their worships.

At Deot Sidh the male pilgrims used to pray their offerings and Baba darshan at the cave where as female pilgrims used to  see (have darshan ) from a place just in front of Cave .

On the hill top above cave there is a temple of Raja Bhartri who was a deciple of Guru Gorakhnath .

For the facility of pilgrims here  free lunger continues by the Baba Balak Nath Trust both at Deot Sidh and Shahtalai . Deot Sidh Temple trust has run a degree college and Sanskrit College at Chakmoh about one km from temple to provide educational facilities in the area . 

The temple is well connected with road facilities.  You can reach this temple from Una by Una Mandi super Highway up to Barsar from where 12 Kms on Barsar Shahtalai Deot Sidh road and 4 km Shahtalai to Deot Sidh . Then have a peaceful atmosphere in holy land of Baba Balak Nath . 

On another road bifurcated from Una Mandi super Highway at Shalouni named Shalouni Deot Sidh road length 20 Kms also connects the temple.

Baba Sidh Chano Temple at Samaila District Hamirpur :-


Baba Balli Sidh Chano Temple is situated in village Samaila  at a distance of about 23 Kms from Shalouni . The temple is situated near the boundary of district Bilaspur and is easily accessible from Berthin via Berthin Chhat Maharal Bijhari road . The distance of  Baba Sidh Chano , Sachi Sarkar Samaila district Hamirpur is about 14 Km from Berthin town of district Bilaspur .

People call Baba Bali as Sachi Sarkar , because it is a Deity of justice . Baba Balli gives justice who pray before Baba .

According to Puranas  in time of Mahabharata Baba Balli was a great worrier ( Wrestler) named Chanur and his wife was Luna , due to his bravery Lord Krishna blessed him that you will be famous by the name Baba Sidh Chano and will give justice to the people who will prayers before you in Kaliyuga .



Thousands of hundreds of people offer their offerings to Baba Sidh Chano , Sachi Sarkar at Samaila on Tuesday and Sunday coming from various parts of the state specially Bilaspur , Mandi , Hamirpur and Punjab . There is one another temple of Baba Sidh Chano near to Hamirpur town at village Kuthera .  Here also people offer their prayers to Baba Sidh Chano.

To please Baba Balli Sidh Chano there is a tradition to do Dhaja prayers at night by the devotees.In Dhaja various traditional songs and act plays are shown during full night . 

Santoshi Mata Temple at Ladraur district   Hamirpur  :- 



Santoshi Mata 

Santoshi Mata Temple at Ladraur in district Hamirpur is a famous temple situated at a distance of 12 Kms from Bhota and also 12 Kms from Jahu . From Hamirpur it is at a distance of about 27 Kms and it also situated on the boundary of Bilaspur district on Una Mandi super Highway at Ladraur in Himachal Pradesh .

On every Friday great rush can be experienced at this temple . Friday is the day when women as well men who worships Mata Santoshi  keep fast and worship Mata Santoshi. The Goddess is offered Kheer , gur and Chana and distributed as blessings of Maa Santoshi as Prashad. Sour foods like Imli or lemon are not taken on this day .

Santoshi Mata fulfill the wishes of her devotees who keeps vrata for sixteen Fridays continuously as per proper rituals .

As per Hindu religion Mata Santoshi is daughter of Lord Ganesha the son of Lord Shiva and Adi Shakti Mata Parvati. Santoshi is goddess of satisfaction .


Kalka Maa Temple at Jol ,Tikkar Rajputan in district Hamirpur :-


Kalka Maa known as Maa Kali ,is most worshipped by Hindus .Maa Kali is worshiped mainly in Bengal , Odisha and Assam  however  in other parts of the country Maa Kali is also worshipped . In Himachal Pradesh there are temples of Mata Kali and people worship Mata Kali .

Maa kali was originated to kill the  Demons Raktbeej , Narkasur and  Andhak as these Demons were going against the universal rules and were damaging the huminity . Maa Parvati ,who is a great Power Aadi Shakti appeared in horrible form known as Maa Kali and killed these Demons .


Kalka Maa Temple at Tikkar Rajputan 

This temple is situated at village Jol Tikkar Rajputan just about 4 km from Barsar Mehre   on Jol Nanawan Karsai Galore link road which is bifurcating from Una Mandi super Highway  at Jol and temple is about 500 metres from the junction towards Nanawan village . Every day hundreds of devotees offer their prayers to Mata Kali at this holy temple .

Just near to this temple a new Shani Dev temple is also established  now . So this place is centre of faith from ancient times .A fair is held here on the day of Baishakhi festival, thousands of devotees  from surrounding areas come to the fair to offer their prayers to Mata Kali .

The very famous temple of Rajasthani Deity Gogga Jahar peer is situated on Jawala ji Deot Sidh road at village Lehra near Galore town in district Hamirpur .

The district Hamirpur area wise , is a smallest district in Himachal Pradesh having total area 1118 square Kilometres . The district is surrounded by the boundaries of districts  Kangra in North, Bilaspur in South , Mandi in East and district Una in West . The district headquarters is situated at Hamirpur town whose name is derived from The name of Raja Hamir Chand  who ruled the area between 1700 A.D.to 1740 A.D.


The district Hamirpur is also called Veer Bhumi as from ancient times the people of this region were great worrier in rulers forces and also  at present this region has given soldiers to Indian Army in huge numbers .

Economy of District Hamirpur :- 


Agriculture :- 


Agriculture fields in Hamirpur 

The economy of the district Hamirpur is agriculture based. Agriculture plays an important role in the economy of the district as well as state . The district has 37326 hect . cultivated land and about 65 percent direct employment comes from agricultural activities .

The major crops in the district are Maize and paddy  in kharif and wheat in Rabi season .In some parts of the district sugarcane is also cultivated .


In some parts Irrigation facilities are available so some farmers are growing cash crops and vegetables .

Horticulture :- 


Indian Gooseberry 

Horticulture Activities are fast growing in the district .Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni district Solan has set up a Research Centre at Bhota  and a college of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri  for the Horticulture and Forestry development in the  district Hamirpur and other lower areas of Himachal Pradesh .


Horticulture Activities 

In the district Mango , Litchi , Galgal , Lemon , Malta , Kinnow, Papaya , Amla and Guava are the major fruits grown in the district, which also contributes towards economy of the district . About 17 percent of GSDP contribution comes from agriculture .

Flowericulture :- 

Some farmers have taken initiation of growing flowers in green houses . So flower business is also contributing towards economy of the district  .


Fishery :-  

District Hamirpur has  very limited natural sources of water like rivers , Khads , ponds and tanks etc. River Beas flow on the boundaries of Kangra and Hamirpur for about 45 Kms from Sachuhi to Chanmukha .

The main tributaries of Beas in district Hamirpur are Kunah Khad which flows about 37 Km and Man Khad which flows about 40 Kms in the district Hamirpur .

In the Beas  , Kunah Khad , Man Khad and other local streams natural Fish Fauna found are Mahaseer ,Sal  ,Singhi , Kunhi , Mori ,Malhi ,Bam , Kalbans and Gid etc .

Development Blocks :-  



The Hamirpur district has been divided into six Development Blocks to facilitate the administrative functions related to development works . The Development Blocks are :- Hamirpur , Bijhari ,Touni Devi , Sujanpur Tihra, Bhoranj and Nadaun. 


Under these Development Blocks there are 248 Gram Panchayats , 1617 villages and five towns namely Barsar , Hamirpur , Nadaun , Bijhari and Sujanpur Tihra .

The forest cover in district Hamirpur is 18232 hect . The forest mostly have Chir and Khair trees . Government and private forests contribute a lot towards economy of the district . As the total geographical area of district is 1118 square Kilometres the forest cover is 21.82 % of total area .

District Hamirpur now has become an hub of educational activities .Here  numbers of educational institutions are providing best education to the students of the state as well as other parts of the country .

The top institutions are , Himachal Pradesh Technical University , Career Point University at Tikkar in tehsil Bhoranj about 35 km from Hamirpur .

 National Institute of Technology at Hamirpur is another top ranking institute , Government degree college Anu , Government Polytechnic , Dr Radha Krishnan Medical College and college of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri . Gautam Girls College at Hamirpur . 

There are  numbers of educational coaching centres like Him Academy , Chanakya and Akash Academy etc. providing coaching for entrance exams in Medical , Engineering and other competative examinations .

In the Hamirpur town there are many good schools like Him Academy , DAV Public school , Military School at Sujanpur Tihra ,  Jawahar Navodaya vidyalaya near Bassi , Government Senior secondary school Hamirpur for boys and girls separately .So Hamirpur has now developed as an educational hub .

National Highway No 70 from Mandi to Jalandhar , National Highway  No 80 from Shimla to Kangra, National Highway No 88  also Shimla to Kangra, State Highway 39 Palampur to Hamirpur , Super Highway Una to Mandi

The total road length is 2362 kms in the district thus total road density of district on 15/07/2022 per 100 square Kilometres of the area is 211.27kms and total road density per 1000 of population is 5.2 kms .

District Hamirpur Part - I

Hamirpur is a district in Himachal Pradesh which came into existence on 1st September 1972 when re - arrangement of districts is done after the  hilly areas of Punjab were merged in Himachal Pradesh on 1st November 1966 .

Hamirpur was created as a separate district with two Tehsils Hamirpur and Barsar .

Tehsils in district Hamirpur at  Present :- 

At present district Hamirpur has eight Tehsils  for better administration and development.
1. Hamirpur,2. Barsar ,3.Nadaun ,4. Bhoranj , 5. Sujanpur Tihra ,6. Bamson at Tauni Devi  ,7. Dhatwal at Bijari and 8. Galore .

Sub Tehsils :- 

There are three sub Tehsils namely , Kangoo , Bhota and Lambloo in the district .

Brief History of Hamirpur :- 

According to Puranas and Panini 's Ashtadhyai in Mahabharata period the Hamirpur was a part of Trigarta Empire. It was a part of Jalandhar . The area between between Ravi and Satluj was ruled by Katoach dynasty .

Ancient Period :-  

During the ancient period it is said that Gupta dynasty had set up its sovereignty in this part and ruled the area .

Middle Ages :- 

Later on during the middle ages this part of land came under the control of Mohammad Gazani , Timurlung and there after Sultanas ruled over this part of land . With the passage of time all these rulers gone away .

Period Between 1700 A.D. to 1747 A. D . :- 


This was the period when all these rulers gone away and the entire area was being ruled by feudal hill chiefs called Rana's.
  These Rana's were always in fight against each other. The Katoch dynasty ruler Hamir Chand made it possible to control these Rana's to form a orderly society .Hamir Chand ruled the Kingdom from 1700A.D. to 1747 A.D. Raja Hamir Chand built Fort at  Hamirpur . The present town has  named after his name .

The Period From 1775A.D. to 1823 A.D.

Raja Sansar Chand II made Sujanpur Tihra as capital and he built palaces and temples here .He ruled the Kingdom from 1775 A. D. to 1823 A .D.  He was having a vision to establish the old empire of his ancestors Jalandhar - Trigarta , he tried it twice but remained unsuccessful as Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the hurdles on his way .

Which he remained unsuccessful in establishing Old Empire Jalandhar Trigarta due to Maharaja Ranjit Singh he diverted his attention towards hill chiefs and attached Mandi state , Raja Ishwari Sen of Mandi was kept in imprisonment at Nadaun for 12 years , Raja Suket was also managed to pay annual tribute  and some Parts of Bilaspur on the right bank of Satluj river were also attached .

Battle of Mehal Morian :-

On this uncontrolled movement of Raja Sansar Chand all hill chiefs joined hands and invited Gurkhas to fight against Raja Sansar Chand . The combined Army of Hill Chiefs and Gurkhas fought the battle at Mehal Morian in Hamirpur .But Raja Sansar Chand gave a crushing defeat to the combined Army and compelled them to go back to the left bank of Satluj . This was the first battle of Mehal Morian .

In the meantime a General Gulam Mohammad of Raja Sansar Chand advised him to replace the existing army with Rohillas on some economic grounds and it was implemented . This weakend the strength of Raja Sansar Chand 's forces . When the combined forces of Hill Chiefs and Gurkhas came to know about the weakness of Katoach dynasty 's forces ,they again planned a second battle of Mehal Morian .

Then combined forces attacked the forces of Raja Sansar Chand at Mehal Morian and in 1806 A .D.Raja Sansar Chand was badly defeated and he along with his family took shelter in Kangra Fort and had to loose Hamirpur .

The Gurkha forces also took Kangra Fort in their possession and looted the forts at Kangra and Mehal Morian and destroyed the villages . This continued for three years till 1809 A.D. Raja Ishwari Sen was made free from Nadaun Jail .

In 1809 A .D. Raja Sansar Chand requested Maharaja Ranjit Singh to help him and on his request , Maharaja Ranjit Singh lodged a war against Gurkhas and in 1809 he defeated Gurkhas but Raja Sansar Chand had paid a heavy price for it . He lost Kangra Fort and other 66 villages and Sikh empire took possession of Kangra Fort and other 66 villages thus succeeded in setting up their sovereignty over Kangra and Hamirpur till 1846.

Anglo Sikh War :- 

In the Anglo Sikh war the British Army defeated the Sikh empire in 1846 and brought Kangra under British Empire.
Raja Sansar Chand died and his grandson Raja Pramodh Chand with the help of Sikhs and other rulers tried to dislodge British but couldn't succeeded .

British Empire made Kangra with Hamirpur , Kullu and Lahaul Spiti as it's parts , Nadaun was made Tehsil headquarters later this settlement was revised in 1868 and tehsil headquarter was shifted to Hamirpur . 

During 1888 Palampur was made a Tehsil by merging some parts of Hamirpur and Kangra  Tehsils . Thus Hamirpur remained the part of Punjab till the reorganization of Punjab on 1st November 1966 when hilly areas of Punjab were merged in Himachal Pradesh . This is brief History of Hamirpur.

Mini Switzerland Khajjiar  :- 


Khajjiar mini Switzerland 

The Khajjiar which is called mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh . It is very popular among tourists . The nature here is very much loving to tourists . Khajjiar is about 26 km from Dalhousie , a beautiful grassy ground with a lake in the centre. You can visit it at any time of the year . 

Dalhousie Town :- 

A beautiful hill station about 45 Km from Chamba district headquarters and about 85 Km from Pathankot ( Punjab ) is named after the British Governor Lord Dalhousie of 19 th century. 
This beautiful town is located at an altitude of 1970 metres above mean sea level on the five hills  named  :-

The five hills , Kathlog , Potreys, Tehra , Bakrota and Bolun . The varieties of trees like Pine , Deodar , Oak and flowering Rhododendron impart immense natural beauty to the town .  Tourists enjoy the relaxing beauty of of Dalhousie Town during their trip to this hill station .

It is situated in the main market of Chamba . It was built by Raja Sham Singh , the construction was started in 1899 AD and was completed in 1905 AD and was honoured to the Church of Scotland mission .

Chamera Lake :-

One another manmade wonder is Chamera dam and Chamera Lake which is about 35 Kms from Dalhousie on Chamba Dalhousie road.The Chamera Lake is results of Chamera dam . It is a very beautiful lake surrounded by green hills . The Lake provides many picnic spots with water sports activities for tourists .


Chamera Hydal Power Project 

The dam is 295 metres long and 226 metres high on river Ravi . The dam has its normal elevation 763  above mean sea level . It is a hydropower project in Chamba district .


Bharmaur :-  



Some time the capital of Chamba , before it is shifted to Chamba by King Shahil Verman was Brahmputra now  the present Bharmaur .

Bharmaur is sub division of district Chamba and is about 60 Km from Chamba . It is a very beautiful place and is on the way to Mani mahesh 

Bharmaur is also famous for its Chaurasi temples built by Rajas which are still as it is .

Mani mahesh Lake

The Mani mahesh Lake is the abode of Lord Shiva and lacs of pilgrims visit this place every year . It is at a distance of 14 km trek from Hadsar . Mani mahesh Lake is situated at an elevation of 4080 metres above mean sea level .

Some other important attractions are :- 

Sui Mata Temple :- 

This temple was built in the memory of Maharani Sui by Raja Shahil Verman his wife . Maharani had sacrificed her life for the people of her kingdom to overcome the scarcity of water.   After her sacrifice the water began to flow.



Every year a fair is held in the memory of Rani Sui .

Chamunda mata Temple Chamba :- 

The temple of Mata Chamunda Devi was built by Raja Umed Singh in 1762 and is located on Shah Madar hills opposite to the Chamba town . Every year pilgrims visit these temples to offer their prayers .

Minjar Fair :- 

The very famous Minjar Fair is held every year in Chauhan ground which is famous for culture and trade of Chamba .
